One of the larger Napa Cabbages. Produces large 12" football-shaped heads with overlapping golden leaves that have a good, mild, sweet flavor. Slow to bolt. A great substitute for lettuce or traditional cabbage. Great fresh, cooked or pickled for kimchee. Also good for stir fry or braised, also adds depth of flavor to soups. Excellent early summer variety. Dense, solid heads are very spherical, 5-7" in diameter & weigh 3-5 lbs. Delicate but crunchy texture. Sweet, spicy flavor with buttery undertones when cooked. Compact habit ideal for small gardens that can be planted closer together than other cabbage varieties. Great for slow cooking, slaws & sauerkraut. Height: 12-15". Plant in part shade. Perennial Grass: Evergreen. Deer resistant. This large, handsome selection was found in the King Mountain Range in Humboldt County. Has unusually broad blades. Good background or accent for woodland or partly shaded meadow. Very attractive seed heads spring-summer. Ht: 3'. Flowers: 5'. Width: 3'. Prefers moist, rich soil in full sun. Perennial Grass: Evergreen. Was found by Josh Williams at Cal Flora Nursery. Tolerates drought & deer. Clumping, mounding growth habit w/plumes that gently arch over the foliage. Good border, meadow, container and cut flower plant. Bloom time: spring-summer. Plume color: wheat. Foliage color: mid green. Height: 1-2 feet. Width: 1-2 feet. Exposure: sun/part shade. Water: dry. Perennial Grass: Drought & deer resistant. Almost the same as C. acu. 'Stricta', the only difference is in cool climates where Karl Foerster is more compact & blooms 2-3 weeks earlier. Annual: Hardy, self-sedding plant. Long flowering period during spring and winter. Petals can be used as a substitute for saffron and may be added to salads. Great cut flower and bedding plant. Has medicinal properties and is also used as a yellow dye. Height: 1-2'. Exposure: sun. Water: moderate.

Annual or Perennial: Tolerates drought, heat and deer. Native to S. Europe. Good in containers, beds, borders, and as a cut flower. Flowers are edible-fresh petals are great in salads and as cake decorations. Attracts bees, butterflies, and pollinators.
