Developed by George Raleigh, Cornell University & AAS Winner in 1963. Soft, buttery-textured leaves enclose a crisp, juicy, loose inner head of blanched, sweet-tasting leaves & the most nutritious of all lettuces. Forms a small 6" fan-shaped rosette, good for salads & lettuce wraps. A "cut & come again," so harvest outer leaves along the way. Sun/part shade. Very heat tolerant. A unique, sweet romaine with excellent bolt tolerance. Medium-size, compact romaine is very upright with improved summer performance. Heirloom-It is one of the earliest varieties to mature and produces small, compact plants which are packed w/a crisp sweet heart & little outside leaf. It is described as a combo of Butter and Romaine. It is crisp, like Romaine, and sweet, like butter, but the texture and the flavor are all its own. Heirloom-This is a multi-purpose Romaine lettuce that is commonly used for baby leaf lettuce because of its quick growth rate, but it also makes an excellent uniform head. It is upright w/grey-green heads that are 8-12” in height & have slightly savoyed lvs. It has crunchy lvs, crmy wht heart & is vigorous. Tolerant to tip burn & many lettuce diseases. Slow bolting.
