Hardy Perennial that can be grown as an annual. Bright green leaves with contrasting dark maroon stems and veins add color and taste to salads. The leaves have an intense lemony flavor. Heirloom: This is a long loved old-time favorite that was introduced by D. Landreth Seed Company in 1826. It is one of the more outstanding open-pollinated varieties available. The leaves are savoyed, long and narrow with glossy, dark green color on a vigorous, upright plant. It has excellent heirloom flavor & tender leaves. Well adapted for late spring or summer plantings, slow to bolt. (Maturity: 42 days)

This is a productive variety that is fast growing and high yielding. The semi-savoy leaves are very large, glossy, dark green and have a full, rich flavor. The extra hardy and nutritious leaves are great fresh and cooked. Does well in gardens and containers. Resists bolting and somewhat mildew resistant. Exposure: sun to part shade. A great choice for warmer climates as it is slow to bolt. Produces uniform and upright, dark green leaves that are slightly spade shaped in spring and summer. Thick, succulent leaves have are tasty and have a well developed flavor. Stays small, which prolongs the baby leaf harvest window. With staggered planting, you can produce spinach nearly all year. A tried and true variety for all seasons-it grows quickly so you can get 3 seasons or more! Described as a Cooks garden favorite. Heat tolerant & slow to bolt. Medium to dark green leaves are upright & smooth to slightly savoyed. The leaves have an excellent tangy, crisp flavor & are held off the ground so they stay clean. Heirloom-Bush type, that produces high yields of straight, dk green zucchini squash. Outer surface is very smooth & glossy w/creamy white flesh. Best when harvested when squash is 8” long. This is a prolific grower & will keep you well supplied all season long. Fruits are delicious when sliced & served fresh, fried, steamed or simmered. Great choice for small gardens. Freezes well. Heirloom-This Italian zucchini wins every taste test based on its unique, slightly nutty flavor & exceptional texture. Tender gray-green skin & prominent ribbing also give this Italian variety a distinctive appearance. Great picked at 6” or smaller w/the flower still attached and fried whole. Big, large-leafed bush w/only about half the yield of hybrids, but much better tasting; nutty, & delicious raw or cooked. (Maturity: 54 days)

Bright lemon yellow 6" crookneck fruits. Fast, prolific grower. Tender, warty skin with a creamy white flesh. Exposure: full sun. Needs soil that has a good drainage flow, while keeping it moist at the same time. Water: moderate. Pick at 5-6” long for a richer taste and tenderness. Mild buttery with a hint of nutty flavor. Great for grilling, baking, steaming, and stuffing. Matures in 53 days.

Summer scallop squash w/bright, dp ylw skin w/good eating quality. Good yielder of tender, rounded squash w/a scallop. Delicious as it is colorful & it’s the earliest and most productive of the yellow scallopini! Can be picked tiny, w/the blossom still attached or up to 6-8” across without losing its tender, buttery flavor. Vigorous plant. Plant in sun. All-America Selections winner in 1985. All-America Selection (AAS) winner. Also known as sweet potato or peanut squash because of its shape. Produces sweet, oblong 1.5-2 pound squash with delicious smooth, nutty flesh with hints of butter & brown sugar. The skin starts creamy white with green stripes & flecks, curing to striped light yellow. Compact, tidy plants with a semi-vining habit spreading to 4-6 ft. Days to maturity: 80. A Japanese Heirloom from 1933. Bright orange-red teardrop shaped squash that avg 4-8 lbs. The golden flesh is dry & sweet w/a delicate nutty flavor. Makes excellent soups, desserts, vegetable tarts, cakes, blinis, pancakes, lasagna, risotto, vegetable stews & gratins. Very prolific & early. A great yielding & keeping variety. Highly sought after by chefs and markets. Maturity: 90-95 days. CURCURBITA maxima 'Japanese Red Kuri' (syn. 'Orange Hokkaido').

Fork out the squash pasta! When raw, the flesh is solid & similar to other raw squash. When cooked, the flesh falls away from the fruit in ribbons or strands like spaghetti. It makes a fun treat for the family w/kid friendly vegetable appeal. The oblong, medium-sized lt. ylw fruits have very sweet flesh. This can be baked, boiled or steamed. Fork out the “spaghetti” and top w/your favorite sauce. Plant in sun. (Maturity: 90 days)

Heirloom–sets the standard for Acorn squash & it started the rage for small individual fall squashes. This is an open pollinated & highly popular variety that bears 1.5-3 lbs fruits. Vines are 3-4’ in length. Very vigorous & prolific. Can withstand poor soil conditions & keeps very well. Flesh is a thick, pale orange w/excellent flavor. Excellent for baking. Sun. Heirloom-1970 AAS winner, years of patient refinement & selection by Bob Young of Waltham, Massachusetts. The most widely-grown butternut variety. Prized for its straight necks, rich dry ylw-orng flesh, nutty flavor & high-yielding vines. Uniform 4-5 lbs fruits have smooth, tan skin, easily peeled w/a potato peeler. If cured well & stored properly, Waltham will keep well into winter. Great flavor! Sun. (Maturity: 105 days)
